An EVM-compatible blockchain on Avalanche, the C-Chain delivers sub-second finality and low fees using Snowman consensus, supporting Ethereum tools for DeFi and NFTs.
Avalanche C-Chain is Avalanche’s EVM-compatible smart contract chain on Mainnet where dApps run and gas is paid in AVAX. It delivers ≈2-second block times with ~1–2s finality, sustains hundreds of TPS with peaks around or above 1,000, and keeps average fees low (simple transfers often <$0.05; typical contract calls ~$0.05–$0.30), making it ideal for DeFi, NFTs, gaming, and stablecoin payments. Daily activity commonly reaches hundreds of thousands of transactions with full Ethereum tooling support (Solidity, MetaMask, Etherscan-style explorers).
Avalanche C-Chain pairs native EVM compatibility with Snowman consensus for deterministic ~1–2s finality and ≈2s blocks, delivering faster confirmations and lower costs than many L1s while maintaining high throughput. Gas is paid in AVAX with an EIP-1559–style dynamic base fee that is burned, keeping typical fees in the ~$0.01–$0.10 range under normal load. It also interoperates with Avalanche’s P-Chain/X-Chain and supports rapid, low-reorg-risk bridging of Ethereum assets via the Avalanche Bridge—useful for cross-chain DeFi and liquidity moves.
Avalanche C-Chain uses AVAX as the gas token for transaction fees. You can obtain AVAX by bridging from other chains or purchasing using thirdweb Bridge.
To bridge AVAX to Avalanche C-Chain, connect your wallet to thirdweb bridge, select your source chain, choose the token you want to bridge, select Avalanche C-Chain as the destination, enter the amount, and confirm the transaction. The bridge will handle the cross-chain transfer instantly.
To build on Avalanche C-Chain you can use thirdweb, which provides an easy way to build, monetize and scale your apps, games or agents. You can find detailed guides and documentation on https://portal.thirdweb.com to get started quickly.
To add Avalanche C-Chain to your wallet, you can connect your wallet and click on [Add to Wallet] button at the top of the page. Alternatively, you can add the network manually using the RPC URL and chain details and add it to your wallet's network settings.
To send AVAX on Avalanche C-Chain, ensure your wallet is connected to the Avalanche C-Chain network, enter the recipient's address, specify the amount of AVAX to send, review the gas fee, and confirm the transaction in your wallet.
