An EVM-compatible blockchain committed to immutability, Ethereum Classic uses Etchash Proof-of-Work and a fixed emission schedule for censorship-resistant, low-cost smart contracts.
Ethereum Classic (ETC) is the original Ethereum mainnet that upheld immutability after the 2016 DAO fork and continues to use proof-of-work (Etchash) on Mainnet. It supports EVM smart contracts for DeFi, NFTs, gaming, tokenization, and enterprise settlement, with typical block time ~13s, throughput ~15 TPS, and very low fees (often 1–3 gwei; a simple transfer at 21,000 gas ≈ 0.000021–0.000063 ETC). Its low, predictable gas and Ethereum-compatible tooling make it a cost-efficient platform for deploying and bridging assets.
Ethereum Classic is unique for its code-is-law ethos, conservative governance, and fixed-cap monetary policy (~210.7M ETC) with scheduled emission reductions every 5 million blocks, secured by PoW and hardened by MESS against deep chain reorgs. Compared with higher-traffic L1s, ETC generally offers similar L1 latency (~13s blocks) but far lower average gas prices (often 1–3 gwei) and lighter activity (typically tens to low hundreds of thousands tx/day), making cross-chain transfers and dapps inexpensive and predictable. It retains full EVM compatibility and a simple legacy gas model, enabling familiar tooling without complex fee mechanics.
Ethereum Classic uses ETC as the gas token for transaction fees. You can obtain ETC by bridging from other chains or purchasing using thirdweb Bridge.
To bridge ETC to Ethereum Classic, connect your wallet to thirdweb bridge, select your source chain, choose the token you want to bridge, select Ethereum Classic as the destination, enter the amount, and confirm the transaction. The bridge will handle the cross-chain transfer instantly.
To build on Ethereum Classic you can use thirdweb, which provides an easy way to build, monetize and scale your apps, games or agents. You can find detailed guides and documentation on https://portal.thirdweb.com to get started quickly.
To add Ethereum Classic to your wallet, you can connect your wallet and click on [Add to Wallet] button at the top of the page. Alternatively, you can add the network manually using the RPC URL and chain details and add it to your wallet's network settings.
To send ETC on Ethereum Classic, ensure your wallet is connected to the Ethereum Classic network, enter the recipient's address, specify the amount of ETC to send, review the gas fee, and confirm the transaction in your wallet.
