An Ethereum Layer 2 testnet on the OP Stack, Mode enables fast, low-cost EVM deployments with builder incentive mechanics and seamless Superchain interoperability.
Mode Testnet is an EVM-equivalent Ethereum Layer 2 built on the OP Stack that uses test ETH as gas, providing a safe mirror of Mode Mainnet for end-to-end experimentation. Typical performance: ~2s block time, average fee for a simple transfer typically <0.00005 ETH, and effective throughput in the tens of TPS—much faster and cheaper than Ethereum L1 (~12s blocks, ~15 TPS). Activity-wise, Mode Mainnet regularly sees high daily transaction counts; the testnet mirrors the same stack so you can safely reproduce similar load patterns.
Mode Testnet is distinguished by Mode’s growth-aligned economics you can simulate before mainnet—builder rewards and sequencer-fee sharing that incentivize apps based on on-chain activity, plus built-in referral/growth tooling. As part of the Optimism Superchain, it retains OP Stack performance (≈2s blocks, sub-cent-equivalent fees, tens of TPS) with canonical OP-style bridging and full Ethereum tooling compatibility. Compared with L1s and many sidechains, you get materially lower fees and faster confirmations while preserving Ethereum security and EVM fidelity.
Mode Testnet uses ETH as the gas token for transaction fees. You can obtain ETH by bridging from other chains or purchasing using thirdweb Bridge, or through faucets (for testnet).
To bridge ETH to Mode Testnet, connect your wallet to thirdweb bridge, select your source chain, choose the token you want to bridge, select Mode Testnet as the destination, enter the amount, and confirm the transaction. The bridge will handle the cross-chain transfer instantly.
To build on Mode Testnet you can use thirdweb, which provides an easy way to build, monetize and scale your apps, games or agents. You can find detailed guides and documentation on https://portal.thirdweb.com to get started quickly.
To add Mode Testnet to your wallet, you can connect your wallet and click on [Add to Wallet] button at the top of the page. Alternatively, you can add the network manually using the RPC URL and chain details and add it to your wallet's network settings.
To send ETH on Mode Testnet, ensure your wallet is connected to the Mode Testnet network, enter the recipient's address, specify the amount of ETH to send, review the gas fee, and confirm the transaction in your wallet.
