An EVM-compatible Ethereum Classic testnet for protocol and client upgrade testing, Mordor uses Proof-of-Work consensus, Chain ID 63, and METC as its native currency.
Mordor is Ethereum Classic’s long-lived Proof-of-Work testnet that mirrors ETC mainnet protocol upgrades and uses METC for gas and fees. It’s used for dApp and smart-contract dry runs, miner and node client testing (Etchash), and pre-production rehearsal of wallets, bridges, and infrastructure. Typical performance is ~13–15s block time, ~10–15 TPS capacity, and ~1 gwei gas price (≈0.000021 METC for a basic transfer), with generally low-to-moderate daily activity for predictable load testing.
Mordor is unique as a public PoW EVM testnet, preserving ETC’s miner-driven consensus, realistic reorg behavior, and gas economics—characteristics most PoS testnets do not replicate. For performance comparison, its block cadence (~13–15s), fee level (~1 gwei), and throughput (~10–15 TPS) closely track ETC mainnet, while faucet-funded METC and typically light activity keep testing inexpensive and repeatable. It also activates ETC hard forks on testnet first, enabling developers to validate opcode changes and tooling compatibility before mainnet release.
Mordor Testnet uses METC as the gas token for transaction fees. You can obtain METC by bridging from other chains or purchasing using thirdweb Bridge, or through faucets (for testnet).
To bridge METC to Mordor Testnet, connect your wallet to thirdweb bridge, select your source chain, choose the token you want to bridge, select Mordor Testnet as the destination, enter the amount, and confirm the transaction. The bridge will handle the cross-chain transfer instantly.
To build on Mordor Testnet you can use thirdweb, which provides an easy way to build, monetize and scale your apps, games or agents. You can find detailed guides and documentation on https://portal.thirdweb.com to get started quickly.
To add Mordor Testnet to your wallet, you can connect your wallet and click on [Add to Wallet] button at the top of the page. Alternatively, you can add the network manually using the RPC URL and chain details and add it to your wallet's network settings.
To send METC on Mordor Testnet, ensure your wallet is connected to the Mordor Testnet network, enter the recipient's address, specify the amount of METC to send, review the gas fee, and confirm the transaction in your wallet.
