Velas EVM is an Ethereum-compatible execution layer on the Velas Mainnet that lets you deploy Solidity smart contracts and use familiar tools (MetaMask, Hardhat) while paying gas in VLX. Common use cases include low-cost DeFi, NFT minting/marketplaces, on-chain gaming, and micro-payments thanks to very low fees and fast finality. Typical performance: average transaction fees are a fraction of a cent (<$0.001), block time is around ~1 second, theoretical throughput is tens of thousands of TPS (50k+), while observed activity generally runs in the single- to low double-digit TPS depending on demand.
Velas EVM is unique for combining fast finality and ultra-low fees via a Delegated Proof-of-Stake variant (AIDPoS) with full EVM compatibility and VLX-denominated gas. Compared to Ethereum L1 (higher fees, ~12s blocks), Velas targets ~1s blocks, sub-cent fees (<$0.001), and far higher headroom (50k+ TPS theoretical), which suits high-frequency dApps. In practice, on-chain activity is well below capacity—often single- to low double-digit TPS—helping keep fees stable and confirmations near-instant during typical network conditions.
Velas EVM uses VLX as the gas token for transaction fees. You can obtain VLX by bridging from other chains or purchasing using thirdweb Bridge.
To bridge VLX to Velas EVM, connect your wallet to thirdweb bridge, select your source chain, choose the token you want to bridge, select Velas EVM as the destination, enter the amount, and confirm the transaction. The bridge will handle the cross-chain transfer instantly.
To build on Velas EVM you can use thirdweb, which provides an easy way to build, monetize and scale your apps, games or agents. You can find detailed guides and documentation on https://portal.thirdweb.com to get started quickly.
To add Velas EVM to your wallet, you can connect your wallet and click on [Add to Wallet] button at the top of the page. Alternatively, you can add the network manually using the RPC URL and chain details and add it to your wallet's network settings.
To send VLX on Velas EVM, ensure your wallet is connected to the Velas EVM network, enter the recipient's address, specify the amount of VLX to send, review the gas fee, and confirm the transaction in your wallet.
